What to Expect

I am so excited that you are considering a session with me.

I would love to tell you a little bit about what to expect before, during and after our session together.

Before Your Session

Please look around at my website, it will give you an idea of my style of photography. If you like what you see here, and are interested in a session, please contact me via the contact form, email, or phone for more details on my sessions and pricing. I would love to set up a phone call for us to discuss what you are looking for in a session and how you would like to be photographed. I will explain how I work and make sure all of your questions are answered.  We’ll discuss the date and time of your session, as well as a location. I will suggest a few of my favorite locations, but am flexible and love trying new places.

After you make the $250 non refundable deposit, that time slot is yours and yours alone.

The Day of Your Session

On the day of your session, please be at our location 15 minutes prior to the start time of your session. This will give you time to wake up the kids, get them out of the car, give them a snack, clean their faces and get them changed if needed. It will be good for your family to have this time to get settled and so we can begin our session in a relaxed mood. If the kids are crying and screaming, pretend it doesn’t bother you. Your job for the time we are together is to look happy, no matter what! Your kids will still be cute, but as adults we’re not as adorable when we’re mad.

We’ll start by walking around a little. Depending on their personality, this will give kids the time to run around and burn off some energy, or it will give them time to be carried and snuggled up to you until they warm up to me and the camera.

I usually start off with a posed shot or two, but other than that I only give vague directions as to where to stand/sit. If you have young children, I encourage you to spend most of the session playing and interacting with them. Don’t worry about me and the camera. Please don’t tell them to look at Miss Sandra (unless I ask you to!), and under no circumstance tell them to say “cheese.”  However, you are welcome to stand behind me, make silly faces and shout out fart jokes. We’re trying to get genuine reactions!

Keep in mind that we will do a little bit of walking, and unless there are puddles on the ground, or you are unable to, I will ask you to sit down in a few different spots.

My sessions are mostly child-led. I do ask them to look at the camera and to stand or sit in certain places throughout the session, but these are more suggestions than instructions.

If you would like only posed images and want a lot of direction during a session, I am not the photographer for you. I am best at  capturing personalities and emotion, and I strongly believe the most important pictures we can give our children are those of us interacting as a family.

After your Session

About two weeks after your session, I will present you with your edited images. You will have a chance to choose your favorite pictures and which print products you would like to purchase. All of my packages come with print and digital products.

I am looking forward to spending time with you and your family!
